My name is Kimberley Slobodian. I am married to Marcelo Barth whom I completely adore. Right now we live in Vancouver, BC, with no kids or pets.
In a previous life, I worked in an office - well, three to be exact: the Court House in Leduc, AB, the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC, and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC. Do any of you watch NBC's The Office? Well, that pretty much sums up the first 16 years of my professional career. Aside from the tremendous learning experience and the great people that I met along the way, I was happiest when I was running my own home-based chocolate business, working part-time at a restaurant, and cooking at home. I finally got the courage to take the leap and start a new career that is much more suited to me. I discovered along the way that there are plenty of unique, food-related careers out there than I initially realized.
I started chronicling my new journey when I began the full-time Culinary and Pastry program at the Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver. I found blogging to be a great way to give a peek to family and friends on what filled my day in school and it has proven to be a useful tool for prospective students interested in this field.
After graduating, I took my time to find a job that suited my strengths. It was especially important to me that I liked my job - no longer was I going to "settle", wake up every day and grumble on my way to work. Thankfully, I found that place at Rouxbe. Not only have I met wonderful people and made incredible friends, I love the work I do. As Co-Producer and Writer, I am responsible for the pre- and post-production of all of our videos (both Cooking School and recipe content). I am able to use every bit of knowledge that I gained during my culinary and pastry training when writing lessons, testing recipes, and helping users have success in the kitchen. There are many things I love about Rouxbe, but the best part is knowing that kids are being fed through Rouxbe for Life. A long-term goal of mine is to become deeply involved in helping hungry kids around the world.
You will notice that I have not actively blogged about my personal experiences for quite some time. My focus and energy is committed to my daytime job at Rouxbe right now; however, I am keeping this blog available for people who are interested in things such as NWCAV, How to Temper Chocolate, How to Spin Sugar, and to share Rouxbe news.
I love traveling and all things chocolate. My favorite cuisine is Italian. I get a kick out of reality TV, love watching movies, and have a soft spot for Boston Terriers. If you enjoy reading my blog and have any questions, feel free to contact me.
Happy Cooking and Baking!
Kimberley
